A large portion of Stelco’s BOF (steelmaking) slag is recycled back to its Blast Furnace. The reused slag acts as a metallurgical flux during the smelting of iron ore, by chemically attaching to impurities. This is not only economically efficient, but reduces the need to quarry additional limestone in Ontario.
