ArcelorMittal Dofasco has used steelmaking slag as road base and dressing for many years. This relies on the material stability, availability and low cost. Indeed much of the plant has been built on a solid base of slag that demonstrates the stability of the material.
Through the 1990’s ArcelorMittal Dofasco was heavily involved in using steel slag in Hot Mix Asphalt for municipal roads. Many of these roads exist today demonstrating excellent performance. One of the key features of these roads is the superior traction that slag imparts to asphalt.
ArcelorMittal Dofasco has been a long term and reliable supply of steel slag to the portland cement industry. This business agreement translates to a high rate of slag recycling at the steel plant while reducing cost and greenhouse gas emissions at the cement plant.
