Transforming Industrial Slag into Valuable Cement Materials

Canadian Slag Services Inc. (CSSI) operates a slag granulator for Great Lakes Slag at the Stelco Blast Furnace in Nanticoke, Ontario. Molten slag from the blast furnace enters the Basin and is rapid quenched with water to form Granulated Slag. The resulting slurry is partially dried in a rotating drum then conveyed to a dewatering pile.

The Granulated Slag is transferred to the dock Staging Area where it is screened and staged for loading into outbound ships and trucks.

The Granulated Slag then travels 1 Km on the CSSI Boat Loader and is loaded on ships to be transferred to Ash Grove Cement and St. Marys Cement where it is ground to form Granulated Slag Cement.
